I stared at the photograph.
My father.
Dominic.
Chloe.
Together.
Three people I never imagined in the same room.
Victor’s voice came through my phone.
“Vivienne, listen to me.”
I couldn’t answer.
Because suddenly the enemy wasn’t outside my family.
It was inside it.
“Dad…”
The word came out quietly.
The ballroom watched me.
Everyone saw my confidence crack for the first time.
Victor sighed.
“I was trying to protect you.”
I closed my eyes.
That sentence.
Everyone said that sentence when they wanted forgiveness before explaining the damage.
“Protect me from what?”
Silence.
Then:
“From Dominic.”
I looked at Dominic.
His expression was unreadable.
Victor continued.
“He never loved the way you thought he did.”
That hurt.
But I needed proof.
Not another person’s opinion.
Victor sent another file.
A recording.
Dominic’s voice appeared.
“I’ll make sure Vivienne signs everything before she understands what she’s losing.”
My stomach dropped.
Because that was not a misunderstanding.
That was a plan.
A plan to take my daughter.
My money.
My future.
Then the recording continued.
And Dominic mentioned something even worse.
A person who had been helping him from the beginning.
Someone standing in the ballroom.
