Chapter 1 - It’s Been Sent

“My son doesn’t marry a walking corpse!”
Vivian Mercer’s voice sliced through the white wedding chapel just as she ripped the wig from the bride’s head.
Gasps exploded down both sides of the aisle.
The wig dangled from Vivian’s hand like a trophy.
Amelia Ross dropped to the marble floor in her wedding dress, both hands flying to her bare scalp. Her shoulders shook. Her breath broke. The veil that had been pinned to the wig slid across the stone beside her like something dead.
For one terrible second, nobody moved.
Hundreds of white roses.
Crystal chandeliers.
A string quartet frozen mid-note.
Guests staring with hands over their mouths.
And Vivian Mercer standing in a silver gown at the front of the chapel, smiling like she had finally exposed something shameful.
Then Ethan moved.
He dropped to his knees behind Amelia and wrapped both arms around her, shielding her body and head from the room.
“I love you,” he whispered against her ear. “Stay with me.”
Amelia trembled so hard he felt it through her dress.
Vivian lifted the wig higher.
“Look at her, Ethan. Look at what she really is.”
Ethan’s face changed.
Slowly.
Completely.
He looked up at his mother with a coldness Amelia had never seen in him before.
“She is my wife.”
Vivian laughed.
“Not yet.”
Amelia raised her head.
Her eyes were full of tears, but something beneath the tears had hardened.
She looked toward her maid of honor, Nora, standing near the first row with a phone in her hand.
The screen had just lit up.
Secure upload complete.
Nora’s lips parted.
Amelia held out one shaking hand.
Nora picked up the wig from the floor and gently placed it back into Amelia’s hands.
Vivian’s smile faltered.
Amelia looked straight at her.
“It’s been sent.”
At that exact moment, in a dark federal office across the city, Investigator Samuel Price opened his laptop and stared at an encrypted folder marked:
MERCER FOUNDATION — COMPLETE FILE.
His face changed.
He grabbed his phone.
“We just got everything.”
Back in the chapel, Vivian’s clutch began buzzing.
Again.
Again.
Again.
She looked down.
Her face drained.
Guests were no longer staring at Amelia with pity.
They were staring at Vivian with horror.
Ethan stood, still blocking Amelia from the crowd.
His voice was low.
“You should’ve stayed quiet.”
May you like
Vivian looked toward the chapel doors like she could already hear consequences approaching.
👉 Vivian thought ripping off Amelia’s wig would end the wedding, but it triggered the one file she had spent months trying to bury.
